Judgment for Replacement Time

Regardless of type of the shock absorber, the damping force of the shock absorber will be attenuated once it is installed in the automobile for use. But the degree of attenuation cannot be judged according to a certain unit such as mileage and service time. The different degree of attenuation is mainly caused by factors such as driving habit, road conditions, climatic environment, bearing capacity, hours of use and number of full load and overload, and the attenuation is an extremely slow process. It is very difficult for even an experienced driver to rightly judge the degree of attenuation of the shock absorber. Normally, you can make a preliminary judgment about the degree of attenuation by the following conditions (you had better compare your automobile with a new one): Poorer road adherence and longer braking distance; Bigger head rise in sudden acceleration; Bigger head fall in sudden braking; Bigger side tilt in sudden turn; When the automobile runs on a bumpy road, the automobile body is greatly vibrated, and people in the automobile are easily got car sickness; Faster wear of tires or occurrence of side wear When the automobile runs at a high speed, particularly runs in crosswind, the automobile is unstable or difficultly operated; When the automobile is stationary, forcibly press down the head or rear part of the automobile, the suddenly release it, the vibration of the automobile cannot stop quickly; When the automobile normally runs, big noise occurs, particularly, when the automobile runs on a bumpy road, the noise sounding like “tong, tong” is obvious; The phenomena mentioned above occurs are possibly caused by the excessive attenuation of the shock absorber, but it is not absolute, you should also check other parts such as springs in order to make a right judgment.                     Good shock absorber               Bad shock absorber The road mileage and the life span of the shock absorber are not specially regulated in some regulations, but in order to make sure users can enjoy safer driving fun, besides routine inspections conducted by users, it is quite important to check the shock absorber when the automobile is inspected in the service stations or undergoes yearly inspection. If the following phenomena occur, you are strongly advised to replace the shock absorber as soon as possible:: Confirm by driving the automobile 1. Bigger head rise in sudden acceleration; 2. Bigger front tilt in sudden braking; 3. Cold outer cylinder after continuous operation; Forcibly press down the automobile 4. The vertical vibration of the automobile cannot stop quickly; Confirm by checking the appearance of the shock absorber 5. Oil leakage-many oil stains on the outer cylinder; 6. Unsmooth stretching (clipping)-bending of the piston rod; 7. Ineffectiveness-when the shock absorber is at the right straight state, pull the shock absorber for several times, you cannot sense obvious resistance; 8. Obvious bumping damage to the outer cylinder.

Replacement Method and Guidance

1. Loosen bolts of the tire, and support the appointed part to lift the automobile body; (you’d better use screw jack or other safety equipment) 2. Remove the tire, and remove the braking tube, ABS wire harness, stabilizing rod ring, etc. which are connected to the shock absorber; (left photo A) 3. Gently support the steering knuckle (transmission shaft) by a jack, and loosen the fixing nuts of the lower bracket (or lower lifting lug) of the shock absorber; (left photo B and right photo A) 4. Remove nuts of the upper fixing holder; (left photo C and right photo B) 5. Lower the jack supporting the steering knuckle by several millimeters, lift up the spring tensioner by hands, and remove the nuts fixing the lower bracket, so that the spring tensioner is separated from the steering knuckle; (be careful of the damage to the braking tube or sheath of the transmission shaft when the steering knuckle is tilted) 6. Move down the spring tensioner, remove the nuts of the upper fixing holder from the automobile body, and finally remove the spring tensioner from the automobile; (right photo C) 7. Remove the bearing cover from the center of the fixing holder, and loosen the nuts fixing the upper spring holder by SST (special tools); (1. Do not use electric or other mechanical wrenches; and 2. Prevent over loosening of the nuts so as to avoid the falling-off of the nuts) 8. Compress the spring by a spring compressor, and remove the upper fixing nuts after you confirm that the gap between the spring and the spring tray is big enough; (make sure the spring compressor and the spring are stably contacted and the spring is evenly compressed) (left photo D and right photo D) 9. make sure the upper fixing holder, spring tray, cushions, shock insulation blocks, etc. are removed in the right direction, and replace the shock absorber;(left photo E and right photo E) 10. Make sure the milling direction of the end part of the piston rod of the shock absorber is matched with holes of the upper spring holder, etc., install the parts in a reverse sequence of 1 to 10. (※ Please use new upper fixing nuts) The operational sequence and method mentioned above are only an example; please find the best sequence and method according to the automobile model and the type of the shock absorber. Before replacement and during the replacing operation, you’d better refer to product instructions and automobile instructions. In order to avoid falling off of the shock absorber and other assemblies during the replacing operation, please make full preparation for it before operation.

Noise of Shock Absorber

According to various causes of the noise of the shock absorber, the noise of the shock absorber can be divided into the categories: idle impact noise, low temperature noise, friction impact noise, throttling noise, connecting vibration noise, etc. According to the mechanism of generating the noise of the single shock absorber, the causes include: 1. When the idle stroke distortion of the shock absorber occurs, the idle impact will be generated, and the main reason for the noise is that in the operation of the shock absorber, the oil in the working cylinder is of interruption or idle stroke; 2. The throttling noise is caused by that when the shock absorber works at a high speed, the oil is foamed or sprayed at a high speed to pass the throttling hole.
